A must-see is the area around S\u00e3o Jorge Castle. Here, a stroll will reveal one of the most captivating street art displays: the portrayal of Fado vadio<\/em> on a series of facades. Located near the Mouraria and Alfama neighborhoods, the birthplace of this UNESCO World Heritage song, it\u2019s a natural choice for this artistic homage.<\/p>\n

Another fantastic spot is near Marqu\u00eas de Pombal, where two of our Portuguese language schools are located. You\u2019ll find three striking buildings adorned with large murals that breathe new life into the area. The iconic Marqu\u00eas de Pombal roundabout, which marks km 0 of Lisbon, is the meeting point of the city\u2019s main avenues. Our schools are just five minutes away, making these incredible works of street art unmissable. They will surely make you pause and admire!<\/p>\n

Lisbon\u2019s Market and Mural Marvels<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Whether you enjoy flea markets or not, a visit to the Feira da Ladra is worth your time. Held on Tuesdays and Saturdays, this “thief market” is set in a vibrant area filled with character. On your way, you\u2019ll encounter one of Lisbon\u2019s most recent artistic masterpieces: a stunning tile mural by Andr\u00e9 Saraiva. This 188-meter-long mural, made from over 52,000 ceramic tiles, showcases a beautiful connection between Lisbon and Paris.<\/p>\n

Other districts such as Gra\u00e7a, Bel\u00e9m, and Mouraria are also home to mesmerizing street art, adding to the city’s magical allure. So, enjoy your stroll and soak in the urban beauty that makes Lisbon unique!<\/p>\n

Some of the bloggers call it a hidden gem<\/strong>, but it\u2019s no longer that unknown. The Azulejo National Museum<\/strong> is located in the old convent of Madre de Deus<\/strong>. The museum collection features decorative ceramic tiles<\/strong> or azulejos<\/strong> from the second half of the 15th century<\/strong> to the present day. You can understand the evolution of tile<\/strong> in Portugal throughout history as well as admire some of the finest examples<\/strong> of tiles from different centuries, including the fantastic church inside. The museum has a lovely green terrace<\/strong> and a restaurant<\/strong>. If you are a fan of Portuguese tiles<\/strong>, you should also try street tile hunting<\/strong> in the districts of Alfama<\/strong>, Baixa<\/strong>, Chiado<\/strong>, and Principe Real<\/strong>; success is guaranteed<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

Inscribed<\/strong> in 2011 on the list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity<\/strong> by UNESCO<\/strong>, Fado<\/strong> is a symbol of identity<\/strong>, it represents a distinctly Portuguese multicultural synthesis<\/strong> of various music genres, starting from Afro-Brazilian roots<\/strong>, local urban song patterns as well as rural music of the early nineteenth century<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Immerse yourself in the bittersweet melodies<\/strong> at the Fado Museum<\/strong>. This engaging venue traces fado\u2019s history from its working-class roots<\/strong> to its international fame<\/strong>. Entirely devoted to Lisbon’s urban song<\/strong>, it was opened in 1998<\/strong>, highlighting Fado\u2019s exceptional value<\/strong> and its deep roots in the tradition and cultural history of the city of Lisbon<\/strong> and the entire country, as well as its role in the Portuguese cultural<\/strong> and national identity<\/strong> statement.<\/p>\n

There are plenty of other museums<\/strong> that are maybe lesser-known but definitely worth visiting like Money Museum<\/strong>, Water Museum<\/strong>, Carris Tram Museum<\/strong>, and Electricity Museum<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"ParqueSecret paradise near Lisbon<\/strong>: Arr\u00e1bida<\/strong><\/h4>\n

You probably heard of the nearby famous towns of Sintra<\/strong> and Cascais<\/strong>. Both are charming, yet often visited and packed with tourists at some points of the year. If you want to escape from the city and look for a stunning yet calm<\/strong> and not so crowded place, then Park of Arr\u00e1bida<\/strong> (Portuguese: Parque Natural da Arr\u00e1bida<\/a><\/strong>) is your place to go! Less than one hour south of Lisbon<\/strong>, the park offers breathtaking coastal scenery<\/strong>, where the blue of the sea alternates with the white tones<\/strong> of the chalk cliffs and the depths of the green vegetation<\/strong> that covers the mountain range. The highest point is in the Serra do Risco<\/strong>, a magnificent cliff 380m<\/strong> high. Good ways of getting to know this pristine place are by hiking<\/strong> or cycling<\/strong> the waymarked footpaths. Portinho da Arr\u00e1bida<\/strong> is considered one of the most beautiful villages<\/strong> in Portugal<\/strong> and also one of the most beautiful beaches<\/strong>; it is a place with unique flora<\/strong> and fauna<\/strong> to be discovered in the clear waters<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

All we mentioned above, the urban street art<\/strong>, museums<\/strong>, and a stunning natural park<\/strong> just next to the city adds to Lisbon’s well-known hot spots<\/strong> and well-established routes. One of the best times to visit Lisbon is early June<\/strong>, when all the city celebrated the festival of its patron saint<\/strong>, Santo Antonio<\/strong>. The official celebration takes place on June 12th<\/strong> and the preceding night, but during the whole month you will see streets<\/strong> dressed up in colourful decorations<\/strong>, sardines<\/strong> being grilled in every square, and happy inhabitants of Lisbon<\/strong> <\/a>dancing, singing, and enjoying life in one of the most delightful cities<\/strong> in the world.<\/p>\n
